Creativity

As naturally creative people, we make space in our lives for curiosity, learning, and artistic expression. Drew loves working with his hands to make things with paint, clay, wood, or glass. Jun is more of a visionary and storyteller, cooking up new ideas in his mind.

Musical Theatre

Jun is a huge fan of musical theatre. During college, he performed in several shows, and since then, has seen most of the big Broadway shows on stage. Watching musicals is one of the favorite things he likes to do with his daughters. Drew, on the other hand, wasn’t a fan until he met Jun. And frankly, it took a bit of convincing to get him there. But now, we both love the creative storytelling and exhilarating energy live performances offer! As part of our honeymoon, we watched four musicals in three days in New York City. We’re quite sure our child will be humming along to musicals before they can speak!

Making Learning Fun

As an elementary school teacher, Drew wants to make learning fun for kids! Many of his teachers growing up taught dull, uninspiring lessons that neither helped him learn nor understand their relevance in his life. Anyone who sees him teach can see how lit up he gets when he’s able to bring excitement for learning to his students. One of his favorite lessons was a unit that tasked 6th-grade students to act as ‘asteroid defense engineers’. They had to develop theoretical plans to deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth. This integrated science, math, research, problem-solving, and presentation skills, fostering critical thinking and emphasizing the relevance of science and mathematics. More importantly, it was a unit that the kids loved! Students who rarely participate were excited to present their ideas. Drew is never more alive than when he’s helping kids develop into life-long learners.

Creating Experiential Art

One of Jun’s favorite hobbies is producing experiential art — art that a group of people can experience together. Our wedding is a great example. Reimagining the traditional wedding ceremony, Jun created “July Nine” — a wedding ceremony and a concert fused into one beautiful experience. It was a unique celebration of love and an unforgettable experience for our friends and family. For his 50th birthday, Jun created “Bloom.” Held in Seattle’s historic St. Mark’s Cathedral, Bloom was an evening of music and guided meditation that culminated with a suprise performance by the Seattle Children’s Choir.
